Common Issues & Solutions

Notifications are not showing up

If you're not receiving pill reminders, try the following steps:

  • Open PillVault Settings and make sure Notifications are enabled
  • Check your device's Settings > Apps > PillVault > Notifications and ensure they are allowed
  • On Android 12+, go to Settings > Apps > PillVault > Alarms & reminders and allow exact alarms
  • Disable battery optimization for PillVault: Settings > Battery > Battery Optimization > PillVault > Don't Optimize
  • Make sure your device is not in Do Not Disturb mode, or add PillVault as an exception
  • Restart your device after making these changes
Reminders are delayed or inconsistent

Some Android manufacturers (Samsung, Xiaomi, Huawei, OnePlus, OPPO) aggressively kill background apps to save battery. To fix this:

  • Disable battery optimization for PillVault in your device settings
  • On Samsung: Settings > Battery > App Power Management > Apps that won't be put to sleep โ€” add PillVault
  • On Xiaomi: Settings > Battery > App Battery Saver > PillVault > No restrictions
  • Lock PillVault in your recent apps tray (long-press the app and tap the lock icon)
  • Visit dontkillmyapp.com for device-specific instructions
How do I change notification sounds?

Open PillVault, go to the Settings tab (gear icon), and find the "Reminder Sound" option. You can choose from 6 different sounds: Default, Bell, Chime, Gentle, Alert, or Silent. Tap "Preview" next to each option to hear it before selecting.

My pill inventory isn't decreasing

Inventory decreases only when you mark a dose as "Taken" (not when you snooze or miss it). Make sure you're tapping the "Take" button on the home dashboard rather than just dismissing the notification. Check your history to verify doses are being recorded correctly.

How do I back up my data?

Go to Settings and tap "Export Data." PillVault will create a JSON file containing all your pills, reminders, history, and settings. Save this file to your preferred location (Google Drive, email, etc.). This file can be used for your records but currently cannot be re-imported into the app.

How do I delete all my data?

Go to Settings and scroll to the bottom. You have two options:

  • Clear History: Removes only your medication history (taken/missed/snoozed records) while keeping pills and settings
  • Reset to Defaults: Removes ALL data โ€” pills, reminders, history, and settings. This requires double confirmation and cannot be undone.

Alternatively, uninstalling the app will remove all data from your device.

The app crashes or freezes

Try these steps:

  • Close PillVault completely and reopen it
  • Restart your device
  • Make sure you're running the latest version from Google Play
  • Clear the app's cache: Settings > Apps > PillVault > Storage > Clear Cache
  • If the issue persists, email us at support@pillvault.app with your device model and Android version
Can I transfer data to a new phone?

Currently, PillVault does not have a built-in data transfer feature. However, you can use the Export Data feature to save your medication data as a JSON file before switching devices. We are working on data import functionality for a future update.
